    Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch

Samsung is expected to unveil its new smartwatch, the Galaxy Gear at a press conference set to take place on Sept. 4 in Berlin, just ahead of the IFA expo. With just a few weeks left before the official announcement, well-connected tech journalist Om Malik has a fresh list of specs and features he expects to see when the Galaxy Gear is revealed.

Malik’s report seems to confirm earlier reports that the Galaxy Gear will come equipped with a 1.5GHz Samsung Exynos 4212 dual-core processor, a Mali-400 MP4 GPU, and a 320 x 320-pixel display. He adds that the OLED screen will measure 2.5 inches diagonally and offer the full spectrum of colors. The smartwatch will also allegedly sport a camera built into the strap, as well as NFC and Bluetooth connectivity to sync up with your Samsung device.

On the software end, Malik expects the Galaxy Gear to offer total integration with both smartphones and tablets, meaning if you open a new message on your smartwatch and then pick up your phone the same message will already be displayed. Samsung may also offer Facebook and Twitter integration for the Galaxy Gear. Users will download apps for the smartwatch through a smartphone app, and most applications for the Galaxy Gear will be Samsung-specific rather than Google-based.

Malik’s claims are all unconfirmed, and he doesn’t reveal his sources, only stating he’s spent the last week reaching out to a number of insiders in order to put together a complete picture of the Galaxy Gear. He also notes that Samsung will launch the device with two parallel events taking place in Berlin and New York on Sept. 4, so it won’t be long until we learn the truth about the company’s rumored smartwatch. Stay tuned.
