Samsung has conquered the world with its seemingly-endless line of Android handsets, but the company may be looking to ease its dependence on Google by releasing another Windows Phone 8 device in the future. A new benchmark over at GFXBench lists a Samsung-designed Windows Phone with the model number SGH-I187.
The benchmark doesn’t reveal much, but does confirm a Windows Phone 8 device with a dual-core Qualcomm Adreno 305 processor, and a 720 x 1280-pixel resolution. The model number suggests Samsung is preparing to launch a new series separate from its Galaxy and ATIV devices, but these mid-range specs have us thinking the new phone may be headed to emerging markets and definitely won’t be the WP8 phablet we’ve been waiting for.
Samsung is clearly still committed to pushing out top-tier Android devices, with the Galaxy Note III next up to bat before the company gets started on the Galaxy S5. However, the South Korean tech giant is clearly not content working with Google’s OS exclusively. Besides its minor investment in Windows-powered mobile devices, Samsung continues its work on Tizen as well despite continued setbacks.
