The light from my grandparent's bow window, and the way it turns the snow beneath it amber.
the sounds from the wooden console TV set buzzing from here to outer space. seemingly every owl in Iowa, all fighting in one tree in the backyard; the way tobacco and furniture polish smells in close quarters, clinging to the throws and curtains.

when the earth was no longer an oyster
outside a shell of mere convenience
feet dangled provocatively, ridiculing gravity-
midair over steep urban skylines
as construction workers pause, only momentarily
